Girls Cricket

Girls and Ladies Section

West End Esher Cricket Club introduced a dedicated Girls Cricket Section in 2018 with the aim to provide girls with the opportunity to play competitive cricket in a fun and supportive environment.

Jo Graves is the manager of the Girls Section .

Our Level 2 UKCC qualified coaches formulate progressive, safe and age and ability appropriate sessions, which are conducted by a group of experienced DBS-checked coaches who are assisted by academy players. We pride ourselves on an extremely impressive coach to cricketer ratio, so that we are able to focus on every cricketer’s individual requirement.

Leagues

Our squad of girls have been entered into the Surrey U14, U15 and U17 outdoor leagues complemented by matches against local schools. Girls have the opportunity to play up to 1 age group down in the boys’ matches as well.

Training

Girls training is held every Friday from 26th April until 21st July (no session on 2nd June as this is half term) starting at the times listed below, with a planned break. Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign your daughter in.

U5-U11 boys and girls train together on Fridays and thereafter boys and girls train separately, although the girls are always welcome on Friday evenings to do some extra training.

We support a single taster session policy if space is available within the daughter’s age group. This is provided at a cost of £10.

What kit do I need?

All girls are required to wear the girls kit for training and matches.  A selection of West End Esher branded cricket wear is available to purchase from our online kit supplier “Serious Cricket” accessed through the club shop web page. We do allow girls to substitute navy leggings for the trousers but for match play we would ask that they do have the shirt at least. With wet weather, it is also useful if the girls have cricket spikes to minimise slipping.

It is not necessary for players to purchase equipment as we have kit bags including bats for all age groups, however due to the Covid we do recommend you bring your own kit.

The younger age groups (U6-U9) play pairs cricket with a tennis, wind or incrediball (soft ball) so there is no need to purchase, helmet, gloves or pads.

U10 and upwards play with a hard ball so must wear ladies protective gear.

Don’t forget to bring water, sun cream and a hat for the hotter days!

Winter Nets

In the winter, we run dedicated net sessions for the girls in the winter months at Reed’s Cricket Centre, Reed’s School Cobham on Thursdays 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

What is the cost?

Subscriptions for female junior cricketers are £170 (£115 for siblings) for the season, and include full family membership of the West End Sports and Social Club for a year.

How do I join?

We have an introduction evening for Parents on Thursday 25th April at 6.30pm whilst the girls are training to discuss the season ahead.  We are very keen to get Parents involved as managers for year groups, scorers and umpires and will be happy to arrange training for anyone who is interested. WEECC is only staffed by volunteers so we can only grow as quickly as we have volunteers to help us.

If you would like to sign up from the start of the season, the best way to do this is to download an app called Teamo from the App Store or Google play and follow the sign up instructions. Alternatively you can do so via the desktop version at https://teamo.chat/club/register/weecc and buy the appropriate membership option. If the season has already commenced, please email  the girls cricket co-ordinator at girlscricket@weecc.co.uk to make sure that there is still a space available in the appropriate age group for your child.

If you have any further queries, please email Jo at  girlscricket@weecc.co.uk
