We provide around 150 junior cricketers with the opportunity to play competitive cricket in a fun and supportive environment. Our Level 2 UKCC qualified coaches formulate progressive, safe and age and ability appropriate sessions, which are conducted by a group of experienced DBS-checked coaches who are assisted by senior academy players. We pride ourselves on an extremely impressive coach to cricketer ratio, so that we are able to focus on every cricketer’s individual requirement. Our focus is firmly on fun!
Training
Introduction evening is Friday 26th April 2024 followed by Training starting Friday 3rd May 2024 – 12 weeks
Matches
This year we have entered teams in age groups U9 to U14 and two girls’ teams at U14 and U15 all competing in the West Surrey Youth League. Matches are played on weekend mornings or weekday evenings. We have a policy of equal opportunities, with every player getting to bat, bowl and field but no player being forced to do something they don’t want to. The Lead Coach or Age Group Manager will ask for availability each week and select a team from this list and we ensure that all children will be given an equal opportunity to play.
Boys and girls are allowed to play in older age groups if their coach considers it safe and beneficial for them to do so. This also allows us to offer more cricket to more players. Girls also have the opportunity to play 1 age group down in mixed teams.
Senior Colts who have displayed the relevant skills and behaviours will have the opportunity to play adult cricket in either the Saturday or Sunday teams based on their ability and the needs of the adult teams at the time. Some of them also help as coaching assistants and if this is of interest please do get in touch.
Food and Drinks
Friday nights at West End are a bit of a legend – the green is full of children enjoying their cricket and parents enjoying everything the Club has to offer. As a member of the cricket club you will have a membership to the West End Sports and Social Club and therefore get to take advantage of some very reasonable prices on the drinks served by the team at the bar.
Winter Nets
We host Winter net training for all age groups from January – March at Shrewsbury House School in Surbiton, For pre season training please see the calendar of events on Teamo to confirm your space.
How do I join?
We have an introduction evening on 26th April from 5:30 pm onwards. If you would like to sign up from the start of the season, the best way to do this is to download an app called Teamo from the App Store or Google play and follow the sign up instructions. Alternatively you can do so via the desktop version at https://teamo.chat/club/register/weecc and buy the appropriate membership option. If the season has already commenced, please email the Colts Chairman at juniorchairman@weecc.co.uk to make sure that there is still a space available in the appropriate age group for your child.
What kit do I need?
Junior cricketers are required to wear a West End Esher shirt for training sessions and white trousers for matches. A selection of West End Esher branded cricket wear is available to purchase from our online kit supplier “Serious Cricket” accessed through the Club shop web page. The younger age groups (U6-U9) play pairs cricket with a tennis, wind or incrediball (soft ball) so there is no need to purchase protective gear. The older age groups (U10 and over) play with a hard ball so must at the very least own a box and cricket helmet as they will not be allowed to bat without either item! Don’t forget to bring water, sun cream and a hat for the hotter days!
For 2024 registration juniors will be given a new West End Esher Cricket Club training top as a part of their membership.
Can I leave my children for the duration of the session?
Parents of children in the U5-U10 age groups must remain on the green. Parents may ask another parent to be responsible for their child but they must inform the lead coach of the age group of this agreement. Parents of the U11 age group and upwards may leave the premises, but again must ensure that another adult is present who is responsible for them during training – accidents do sometimes happen and the coach is responsible for the entire group, so in the event of an injury we need to be able to hand over to someone. All parents MUST return on time to sign their children out.
What is the cost?
Subscription of £170 for the first child followed by £115 for siblings, Payment is made through the Club management Teamo site, and includes a year’s membership of the West End Sports and Social Club for the whole family.
If you have any further queries please email juniorchairman@weecc.co.uk
We are looking forward to seeing you on the green!
